Seating and Mobility Considerations for the 0 - 16 population

Target Audience:

Suppliers (ATPs, RTSs), Clinicians (OTs, PTs, COTAs, PTAs,), Reimbursement personnel

Course Description:

If you are involved with the decision making process for the prescription of positioning, seating and/or mobility for children from birth through later teens whose needs may range from simple solutions to more complex solutions, this program is for you.

Join us for a day of fun learning and hands on interaction as you arrive prepared to discuss strategies for providing positioning, seating and mobility solutions for this age group.

Topics covered to provoke critical thinking will include:

  • the pediatric assessment team and process
  • the differences that we might want to consider between the pediatric and adult pelvis
  • the benefits of early intervention from a positioning, and wheeled mobility perspective
  • considerations for growth and development as well as the management of tone.

Time will be spend reviewing common symptoms that we all see in the seated child, which will lead to an interactive discussion on whether we address the symptoms with band aids, or do we feel confident that we are understanding the actual cause of the problem and therefore prescribing solutions.

A child with seating/mobility needs from the local area will join us during this program if at all possible. The attendees will participate in a hands-on evaluation, translating assessment findings to product features as well as discuss the key components of what a letter of medical necessity for the prescribed/recommended equipment might need to include.

Utilizing a combination of lecture, discussion and hands on exercises, the attendees will understand evaluation strategies, clinical application and documentation requirements for their pediatric clients whose needs may range from simple to more complex solutions. Each person will leave with immediately applicable ideas.
